About Alex

My name is Alex Giles Daynes and I am currently a Senior college student at the University of Utah. I am studying Financial Planning, with a minor in Family Life.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved to cook. Food is a huge part of my life. Growing up, I was blessed with a mom that provided us with home cooked dinners for our family of six almost every night. Watching her as I grew up has taught me so much about cooking and the importance of eating delicious, healthy, well balanced meals. I have watched her over the years and now have the opportunity to incorporate the things she taught me into my own life in my own kitchen.

I used to live off campus with my best friend, in an apartment with 6 roommates in Cedar City, Utah. That was where My Own Meal Plan was born. I did not purchase a meal plan like most freshman can or do. I started this blog because I decided that I was an "adult" and I could handle making myself food. I also felt that by making my own food, I could better control my calorie intake and better know what was really going into the food that I am eating. I try to be a healthy eater and plan my meals around nutrient dense foods. I like to think of myself as having my own meal plan.

Now, I am happily married to the love of my life. We were married on October 7th 2016 in the Salt Lake temple. We live in a house in Farmington, Utah and life couldn't be any better. I am now cooking for my adorable husband and myself. He is a big health fanatic that inspires me to eat better and challenges me to make healthy food that tastes amazing.

So far, it has been great! Grocery shopping for two is a lot different than grocery shopping for one. Brandon and I have very different pallets and we like very different food. It is hard buying and finding things that we both enjoy. It is a challenge but I wouldn't have it any other way. We love our lives we are building and we are growing and learning every single day.

The purpose of this blog is to tell my story about being a student and wife, and how I am surviving cooking healthy meals for myself on a budget. I'm excited to share my tips and tricks about how to work in a small kitchen, and how to make the best food that will impress all of your friends! Let's get posting!
